This free program is granted by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to qualifying children and families living in the Sandwich community. The preschool classrooms located at the Haskin School. This is a
snapshot of the quality Sandwich Preschool-for-All-Classroom, reflecting 'Best Practices' in early childhood.
The Preschool classroom ...
- is made up of qualifying 3 and 4 year olds, based on screening results
- has a maximum of 15-18 children per classroom
- offers a blended classroom
- offers a child centered atmosphere and environment
- is a rich learning environment with a wide range of materials for all learners
- a research based curriculum, Creative Curriculum, approved by the Illinois State Board
of Education (ISBE)
- has four year degreed, certified teachers and qualified assistants, approved by ISBE.
- schedule is a minimum 2 1/2 hours class time, five days a week
- offers morning and afternoon sessions
- offers daily snacks
- implements ongoing student assessment
- schedules annual fall and winter parent conferences
- encourages parent volunteers/involvement to support the classroom
- takes field trips
- parent educator led 'special events'
- encourages families to share their culture and family strengths

What do I need to do to have my child screened?

How does the screening work?
- When you call, be prepared to respond to some basic questions about your child
- There will be a packet of information that you will be filling out during your child’s
screening time
- Bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate with you to screening.
- Your child will be assessed on motor, language, cognitive, and self-help skills.
- The information will be reviewed and you will be contacted to discuss results of the
screening paperwork
